Jill Craig, MS, CN, LD, CNS

Jill Craig is a Certified Nutrition Specialist® (CNS®) with a MS in human nutrition. She is a certified Dietitian/Nutritionist with the Department of Public Health in Connecticut and licensed by the Ohio State Medical Board as a Dietitian. She specializes in nutritional sciences and related biochemistry under the Functional Medicine model.

Prior to these career pursuits, Jill, her husband Paul, and their four children lived in Kenya for 17 years where life in far-to-reach places led them to suffer the effects of malnutrition. After moving back to the US in 2007, life in a moldy home contributed to a severe decline in their health. A first-hand understanding of how environmental toxins can negatively impact health has enabled Jill to empathize deeply with each patient’s story as she truly aspires to be a healing-help to all.

Currently, Jill is an adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport’s Institute of Human Nutrition where she teaches a course in vitamins and minerals.

What is a CNS®?

The Certified Nutrition Specialist® credential is the gold-standard certification for Personalized Nutrition practitioners. It was launched in 1993 by the Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists SM (BCNSSM) through the American College of Nutrition®.  Nutritionists with master’s degrees, APRNs, DCs, DDSs, NDs, PAs, PharmDs, MDs, DOs, and other advanced-degreed health professionals are qualified to become CNSs®. The CNS® program is accredited by the NCAA which is a national commission for certifying agencies.

What does a CNS® do?

A CNS practices Personalized Nutrition (PN), a NOT one-size-fits-all approach toward wellness. Though humans share many common features, individually, we each have a biochemical makeup, metabolism, genetics, and gut microbes that are unique to us. As a CNS, Jill is trained to evaluate how nutrition plays into all these differences.

For example, someone may do well with high doses of vitamin D, while such levels may be harmful for another. Also, one person may have very low vitamin B12 in their body because they don’t ever eat red meat. But another person may eat plenty of vitamin B-12 food, but mold toxins are blocking the vitamin’s ability to help their metabolism. Personalized Nutrition is foundational to healing.
